“Today I want to tell you a story, a short story, don’t worry. Have you ever wondered how an embedding comes about?

It happened to me many years ago, when I found myself in the workshop, observing the birch wood panels. I watched them stacked one on top of the other, and I wondered if it was possible to create a line of furniture that could be assembled simply by interlocking wooden panels. A design line with the qualities of industrial production—endlessly replicable. That’s the unique and fascinating aspect of our joints: even though they are three-dimensional, they originate from a two-dimensional design on a sheet of wood—because what we assemble are panels. We think in two dimensions to build three-dimensional structures.”
